Both had been effective under the right conditions but were difficult to use and expensive. Though the LGBs did not get much media attention when they were first used inside South Vietnam nor even during Linebacker I, the 28 METS earliest versions were cheap and very effective. 73 They had to have either the service of a target designator on the ground or the help of another airplane orbiting the target with its onboard designator.
